Southampton

New home for immigrants

As Southampton is a port, many immigrants have found it the perfect place to start a new life making it a multicultural city with many different people. Although Southampton has fewer immigrants than London or Birmingham, just under 8 percent of the city's population come from different ethnic communities. This project has given us the opportunity to speak to first and second-generation immigrants about their experiences.

“Just an example of how hard we worked was .. we were the people who opened shops Sundays. We went that extra mile because we wanted to prove that we are here to work and at the same time, we needed the money.”
