Oceanography

Learning about the Oceans

Oceanographers and marine biologists study the oceans and the things that live in them. The National Oceanography Centre is famous around the world for its work. Much of the equipment oceanographers use is developed at the Centre. Surveying the oceans is very slow and difficult because they can only use sound. Studying the oceans also helps scientists understand more about climate change. We wanted to get a better understanding of the work of oceanographers and marine biologists

“We have better maps of the Moon and of Venus than we do of the Ocean floor... ...more people have walked on the Moon than have been down to the deepest part of the Ocean.”
